I’ve got a confession to make, I’m a Harry Potter newbie. Yep, you read that right. I’m new to Rowling’s universe and I’m loving every minute of it. I know what you’re thinking. You’re probably sat in front of your laptop screen in sheer horror that it’s taken me this long to read the Harry Potter books. I know, I know – I’m surprised it’s taken me this long too. Although I watched the films when I was younger, I only experienced the magic of Hogwarts through the printed page last year and boy do I regret not reading the series sooner.
Why, you ask? Well, I wrote a lengthier article about how life changing the novels are on Maximum Pop. You can read it by clicking here. But, if you’re after a quick overview, one of the reasons why I connected with the book so much is due to how much detail is packed in them. When you watch the Harry Potter films you see a universe that’s full of magic and fantasy. Sure, you get that in the books, too. But, the novels spans beyond those traits. They’re timeless classics and tackle a great deal of issues such as discrimination, activism, power, politics and human rights – to name a few.
Want to see for yourself? Below are just seven of my favourite Harry Potter quotes that show how powerful the Harry Potter series is. If you’re a HP fan then these quotes will get your heart racing quicker than Cedric Diggory. Swoon.
1. Kingsley says this powerful quote in The Deathly Hollows
“I’d say that it’s one short step from Wizards first to Purebloods first, then to Death Eaters,” replied Kingsley. “We’re all human, aren’t we? Every human life is worth the same, and worth saving.
2. True friendships bloom when you defeat a mountain troll
“There are some things you can’t share without ending up liking each other, and knocking out a twelve-foot mountain troll is one of them.”
3. Dumbledore reminds Harry that he should trust his instincts in The Deathly Hallows
Dumbledore beamed at him, and his voice sounded loud and strong in Harry’s ears even though the bright mist was descending again, obscuring his figure. “Of course it is happening inside your head, Harry, but why on earth should that mean that it is not real?”
4. Dumbledore (once again) proves he’s a complete genius in The Philosopher’s Stone
“It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live.”
5. Harry seeks reassurance from Dumbledore in The Chamber Of Secrets
“Exactly,” said Dumbledore, beaming once more. “Which makes you very different from Tom Riddle. It is our choices, Harry, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.”
6. Hermione outsmarts everyone in The Deathly Hollows
“I mean, you could claim that anything’s real if the only basis for believing in it is that nobody’s proved it doesn’t exist!”
7. Dumbledore discusses different types of courage in The Philosopher’s Stone
“There are all kinds of courage,” said Dumbledore, smiling. “It takes a great deal of bravery to stand up to our enemies, but just as much to stand up to our friends. I therefore award ten points to Mr. Neville Longbottom.”
So, there we have it. Those are just a few of my favourite HP quotes. Do you have a favourite quote or moment from the Harry Potter books? What does the series mean to you? Let me know in the comments below. I’d love to hear your thoughts.
